Kosovo Tourist Visa Requirements for UK Citizens

Last checked: 19 March 2026

Planning a holiday to Kosovo with a full British citizen passport?

This guide explains the current tourist entry rules for UK travellers, including whether you need a visa, how long you can stay, passport validity rules, what border officials may ask to see, the important Kosovo-Serbia border issue, the new address declaration system, costs, and the official government links to check before travel.

This article is restricted to tourist entry for UK citizens. It does not cover work, study, long-term residence, or employment routes except where needed to explain what does not apply to a normal holiday.

Kosovo uses the euro (€) and is not part of the Schengen area. That means the usual Schengen 90 days in 180 days rule, Entry-Exit System, and ETIAS rules do not apply in the same way they do for France, Italy, Germany or Spain.

1. Quick answer

No tourist visa is required for a UK citizen visiting Kosovo for a short holiday.

For most British tourists, the key points are:

  • You can visit Kosovo without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism or business.
  • Your passport must be undamaged and valid for the duration of your stay.
  • You do not need an additional 3 months of validity after leaving Kosovo.
  • Officials may ask for documentary evidence of the reason for your stay or proof that you have sufficient finances.
  • You will normally receive a 90-day entry stamp.
  • There is no Kosovo-only tourist eVisa or Kosovo-only tourist ETA identified in the official sources reviewed for a normal visa-free UK tourist trip.
  • Kosovo has also introduced a new foreign visitor address declaration app, and the declaration of address within 3 days of entry is now being actively digitised.

In simple terms, most UK holidaymakers can travel to Kosovo without applying for a tourist visa, provided they stay within the 90-day limit and carry a valid passport.

2. Passport and stay rules

If you are travelling to Kosovo as a tourist on a full British citizen passport, your passport should meet these conditions:

  • It must be undamaged.
  • It must be valid for the full duration of your stay.
  • You do not need an extra period of validity beyond your stay.
  • You can be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or if you try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

UK citizens can stay in Kosovo for tourism for up to 90 days without a visa.

Unlike many other European destinations, this is not a Schengen calculation. Kosovo is outside Schengen, so time spent in Kosovo does not count towards your Schengen short-stay allowance.

If you plan to stay in Kosovo for longer than 90 days, the UK Government says you need to register with the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a residence permit.

3. Border checks and the Kosovo-Serbia route issue

Even though UK tourists do not need a visa for a short holiday, Kosovo officials may still ask for supporting documents.

  • Evidence of the reason for your stay
  • Proof of sufficient finances
  • Your accommodation details, if relevant
  • Return or onward travel evidence, if useful to support your itinerary

The most important route-planning issue is the Kosovo-Serbia border.

UK Government guidance says Serbia does not consider the designated crossing points with Kosovo to be official international border crossings. You can travel from Serbia to Kosovo and back again, but you cannot travel from Kosovo to Serbia without a valid Serbian entry stamp from Belgrade, Niš or Kraljevo airports, or from one of Serbia’s other recognised border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia or Romania.

You are likely to be refused entry into Serbia without that valid Serbian entry stamp. The UK Government also says Serbian border guards have denied foreign nationals entry if they have Republic of Kosovo stamps in their passports, and there have been isolated cases where Serbian authorities cancelled Kosovo stamps in foreign passports.

For a normal tourist, the safe approach is to think carefully about your route before you book flights or overland transport, especially if you want to combine Kosovo with Serbia in one trip.

4. Address declaration and longer stays

Kosovo now has a more visible and digitised approach to address declaration for foreign visitors.

On 15 March 2026, Kosovo’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that, in cooperation with the Kosovo Police, it launched an application for declaring the address of foreign citizens visiting the Republic of Kosovo.

According to that ministry notice:

  • the application is available for Android and iOS
  • address declaration can also be made through the Kosovo Police website
  • declaring the address within 3 days of entering Kosovo is a legal obligation

This is one of the key new electronic systems to be aware of for Kosovo travel in 2026.

For short tourist trips, the UK Government’s entry page mainly focuses on the visa-free 90-day rule and the 90-day entry stamp. For longer stays beyond 90 days, you will need to move beyond tourist entry and register for the appropriate residence permission.

5. Electronic systems in use, or recently introduced

Kosovo does not currently require a separate Kosovo-only tourist eVisa or Kosovo-only ETA for a visa-free UK holiday visit.

However, there are three systems worth knowing about:

Kosovo’s official visa system

Kosovo’s official visa portal explains who does and does not need a visa, provides the Visa C and Visa D forms, and lists the supporting documents required. A normal visa-free UK tourist would not usually need to apply through this system, but it is the official reference point if your circumstances fall outside the standard British tourist route.

Foreign visitor address declaration app

Kosovo’s Ministry of Internal Affairs launched a new address declaration application for foreign visitors on 15 March 2026. The ministry says the service is available through mobile app and web access via the Kosovo Police framework.

No Schengen EES or ETIAS for Kosovo entry

Because Kosovo is not in the Schengen area, the usual Schengen electronic systems do not apply in the same way to tourist entry into Kosovo.

  • EES is a Schengen external border system, so it is not Kosovo’s entry system.
  • ETIAS is also a Schengen and EU-associated travel authorisation system, so it is not required for entry into Kosovo.

So the current position for UK tourists is:

  • No Kosovo-only tourist eVisa requirement identified
  • No Kosovo-only tourist ETA requirement identified
  • Kosovo does have an official visa portal for people who need a visa
  • Kosovo has a newly launched foreign visitor address declaration app
  • EES and ETIAS are not the systems that govern normal tourist entry into Kosovo

6. Costs for UK tourist entry

Kosovo uses the euro (€). For a normal UK tourist visit, the official entry costs are simple because no tourist visa is required.

Approximate pound conversions below use the European Central Bank reference rate of €1 = £0.86393, published for 18 March 2026.

Use these official pages before booking, before travel, and again shortly before departure:

If your circumstances are unusual, for example dual nationality, a route involving Serbia, non-standard travel documents, or a stay beyond 90 days, rely on the official pages above rather than third-party websites.

Final check before travel

For most UK holidaymakers, Kosovo is straightforward on the visa side: no tourist visa is required for a short stay. The main things to get right are carrying a valid passport for the whole stay, understanding the 90-day visa-free limit, planning carefully if your route involves Serbia, and making sure you understand Kosovo’s new address declaration requirement for foreign visitors.
