Kyrgyzstan Tourist Visa Requirements for UK Citizens (2026 Guide)

Last checked: 22 May 2026

Planning a trip to Kyrgyzstan with a full British citizen passport?

This guide explains the current tourist entry rules for UK travellers, including whether you need a visa, how long you can stay, passport validity rules, what Kyrgyz border officers may ask to see, electronic systems now in use, costs, and the official government links to check before travel.

This article is restricted to tourist entry for UK citizens. It does not cover work, study, residence permits, journalism, volunteering, or long-stay immigration routes except where needed to explain what does not apply to a normal holiday.

Kyrgyzstan uses the Kyrgyzstani som (KGS) and is not part of the Schengen area.

Important travel note: I did not identify a current Kyrgyzstan-wide FCDO no-travel warning on the official page reviewed. Even so, the FCDO says no travel can be guaranteed safe and that travellers should have appropriate travel insurance. It also gives specific regional caution for parts of the south and for the border with Tajikistan.

Travel note and insurance

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) does not currently appear to list a Kyrgyzstan-wide no-travel advisory on the official page reviewed.

That does not mean risk-free travel. The FCDO says that no travel can be guaranteed safe and that, if you choose to travel, you should research your destination and arrange appropriate travel insurance.

The FCDO also publishes regional caution for parts of Kyrgyzstan. If you travel to Osh or Jalal-Abad, you should stay aware of your surroundings. If you travel near the Kyrgyzstan–Tajikistan border, there is a history of border clashes, unexploded landmines and weapons still pose a serious risk, and border areas can face sudden restrictions and closures at short notice.

So while Kyrgyzstan is straightforward from a tourist-entry perspective, it is still sensible to check the latest regional conditions and border-crossing situation shortly before departure.

Quick answer

No tourist visa is required for a UK citizen visiting Kyrgyzstan for a normal short holiday.

For most British tourists, the key points are:

  • You can visit Kyrgyzstan without a visa for up to 30 calendar days in each 60-day period.
  • Your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the day you arrive.
  • If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you must either leave before the 30-day period ends or obtain the appropriate documents.
  • Kyrgyzstan offers an official e-visa service for visitors who need a visa.
  • If you are visiting for more than 30 calendar days, you must register online with the State Registration Service within 5 days of entry for the period of your visa’s validity.
  • I did not identify a separate Kyrgyzstan tourist ETA for an ordinary visa-free UK tourist trip.

In simple terms, most UK holidaymakers can travel to Kyrgyzstan without applying for a tourist visa in advance, provided the passport rules are met and the trip stays within the normal 30-day visa-free limit.

Passport and stay rules

If you are travelling to Kyrgyzstan as a tourist on a full British citizen passport, your passport should meet these conditions:

  • It must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the day you arrive in Kyrgyzstan.
  • You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or if you try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

UK citizens can enter Kyrgyzstan as visitors for stays of up to 30 calendar days without a visa, for each 60-day period.

After that period expires, the current UK guidance says UK nationals must either leave Kyrgyzstan or obtain the appropriate documents.

If you are visiting Kyrgyzstan for more than 30 calendar days, you must either leave before the 30-day period ends or register online with the State Registration Service (SRS) within 5 days of entry for the period of your visa’s validity.

If you are staying with someone who owns a property in Kyrgyzstan for longer than 30 calendar days, you and the property owner must register at the State Registration Service.

Do not overstay your permitted stay, even for a short period. The current UK guidance says that if you overstay, you could get a fine and possibly be deported.

What Kyrgyz border control may ask for

For a normal UK tourist trip, the key official requirements focus on a valid passport and compliance with Kyrgyzstan’s stay and registration rules.

  • A valid passport
  • Your permitted duration of stay, especially if your trip comes close to the 30-day visa-free limit
  • Your registration details, if you are staying longer than 30 days and need to register
  • Your customs declaration, if you are carrying controlled medicines or declarable goods

The current UK guidance also says that if you travel with prescription medicines, you should bring a doctor’s prescription and declare them on your customs declaration form. Some medicines available without prescription in the UK can cause problems on entry into Kyrgyzstan if they are not declared.

In practice, it is sensible to keep your passport, accommodation details, onward plans, and any registration or medical paperwork easy to show if asked.

Electronic systems in use, or coming soon

Kyrgyzstan currently uses official online systems for foreign visitors, but I did not identify a separate tourist ETA for an ordinary visa-free UK tourist trip.

There are two systems worth knowing about:

Kyrgyzstan official e-visa portal

Kyrgyzstan offers an official e-visa service for visitors. The official e-visa portal says the application can be completed online and that the electronic visa grants the same right to enter Kyrgyzstan as an ordinary sticker visa in the passport.

For an ordinary British citizen tourist, the key point is that this e-visa route is generally not needed because UK passport holders already have the visa-free short-stay tourist route.

Online registration with the State Registration Service

If you are staying longer than 30 calendar days, the current UK guidance says you must register online with the State Registration Service (SRS) within 5 days of entry for the period of your visa’s validity.

So the current position for UK tourists is:

  • No tourist visa is required for a normal short UK holiday trip
  • No separate Kyrgyzstan tourist ETA identified right now
  • Kyrgyzstan does use the official e-visa portal for travellers who need visas
  • Kyrgyzstan also uses online SRS registration for longer stays

Costs for UK tourist entry

Kyrgyzstan uses the Kyrgyzstani som (KGS). For a normal UK tourist visit, the official entry costs are simple because no tourist visa is required.

Approximate pound conversions below use the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic official exchange rate visible on 22 May 2026 of £1 = KGS 116.49.

ItemDoes it apply to a normal UK tourist?Amount
Kyrgyzstan tourist visa for a normal short UK tripNoKGS 0 (£0)

Online SRS registration for stays over 30 daysOnly if applicable, and no government fee was identified in the official sources reviewedKGS 0 (£0) identified

Important: if your circumstances put you outside the visa-free UK route and you actually need a Kyrgyzstan tourist visa, the accessible official English-language pages reviewed do not clearly publish one simple tourist-fee line. In that situation, check the live official e-visa portal before you pay.

Use these official pages before booking, before travel, and again shortly before departure:

If your circumstances are unusual, for example dual nationality, a passport close to expiry, a stay longer than 30 days, or travel near sensitive border areas, rely on the official pages above rather than third-party websites.

Final check before travel

For most UK holidaymakers, Kyrgyzstan is straightforward from an immigration point of view: you do not need a tourist visa for a normal short stay of up to 30 calendar days in each 60-day period. The main things to get right are your passport validity, your time in country, and any registration requirement if your stay goes beyond the normal short visa-free period.

No. UK citizens can enter Kyrgyzstan without a visa for up to 30 calendar days in each 60-day period. After that, the current UK guidance says you must either leave Kyrgyzstan or obtain the appropriate documents.

Up to 30 calendar days in each 60-day period. That is the core short-stay tourist rule for UK citizens.

Your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the day you arrive in Kyrgyzstan.

Only if you stay for more than 30 calendar days. GOV.UK says you must then register online with the State Registration Service within 5 days of entry for the relevant period. If you are staying with a property owner for longer than 30 days, both you and the owner must register.

Kyrgyzstan has an official e-visa portal for travellers who need visas, and the portal says the electronic visa gives the same right to enter Kyrgyzstan as a sticker visa. But for an ordinary British tourist, it is usually not needed because the UK already has the visa-free short-stay route. I did not identify a separate tourist ETA for ordinary UK tourists.

The FCDO does not currently list a Kyrgyzstan-wide no-travel warning, but it says no travel can be guaranteed safe and recommends appropriate travel insurance. It also warns about regional risks in Osh, Jalal-Abad, and especially near the Kyrgyzstan–Tajikistan border, where security conditions can change quickly.
